Bogart aka Elvis

Bogart is an snuggly, inquisitive and energetic 6 month old puppy just like any other puppy.  The only difference is he cannot hear, but this does not slow him down. We discovered him on the MN Boxer Rescue site, which my husband kept going back to again and again.  He knew he wanted another boxer for our 5 year-old boxer we already loved.  He was fascinated with white boxers and soon discovered that some of them are deaf.  After seeing all of these beautiful dogs I knew it would not take much to convince me.  We fell in love with Bogart before we even met him.  Our whole family was on board.  We knew there was going to be a lot of work ahead of us, but little did we know how easy it would be.  Some people have asked us why would you get a deaf dog.  All I can say is that they just want to be loved just like any other dog.  They are no different.  After 3 weeks in his new home, Bogart already knows signs for potty, sit, stay, no and down.  Sometimes I think he may have learned these commands faster than his hearing fur sister.  We know we have a long way to go.  We have made a list with pictures so that the whole family can learn new signs.  Our hope is that Bogart is as happy and healthy as our hearing boxer.  So far, all is well. He has been a great addition to our family and I can't image not having Bogart with us.
