Champ

Shortly after losing Pebbles, I was contacted by a representative of the television show, ‘Animal Planet’ wanting to do a story on a deaf dog. When I told them I had just lost Pebbles, they offered to find me another deaf dog. I knew I wanted another Dalmatian and many breeders routinely put their deaf puppies to sleep when they find they are deaf. I told them what I wanted, thinking it would be a difficult request to fill. They called back within an hour and told me about “Lucky” who had been found on a highway outside the Pueblo, CO airport when he was only 4 wks old. I had seen him on the deaf dog list but felt it was too soon to get another dog after Pebbles. This call told me it was meant to be. He was diagnosed with Parvo before I was able to officially bring him home. He was in isolation for 8 very long days. I spent several hours a day just holding him while he slept. A vet tech said Lucky was a real fighter, a real “Champ”. He needed some new karma, hence his new name. He has been through obedience classes and knows tricks that have been used in visits to elementary school classes to talk about Fire Safety, Stranger Danger and of course, deaf Dalmatians. Animal Planet did their story on another deaf Dalmatian and Champ is happy chasing squirrels, stray kitties, and sparring with his deaf brother, Zap.
