Cooper

Cooper

Cooper is quite a handsome 68 pound black lab and his owners, Karen & Bob, believe he is a perfect fit for them. Being deaf, Cooper needs to keep you visually in sight. Therefore, he is generally always near his owners. Bob is at home during the day which works out great for Cooper (and Bob says great for him too)! They go on jogs and walks and play ball. And, if Bob is busy, Cooper sleeps nearby.

Slowly acclimating Cooper to life around him seems to be working out very well. Cooper has been diagnosed with OCD and is on medication. He has calmed down 100%, with not nearly as many episodes since arriving at his new home. Cooper’s previous owner had several other dogs, and his owner surrendered him to SHRL since Cooper was not getting the attention he needed. Bob & Karen have never had a special needs dog but feel they are quite blessed to have found Cooper who has in a short time become such a beloved member of the family. Naturally, Cooper was included in their recent family portrait!

Cooper now responds to hand signals and is given a thumbs up to say “great job“. His tail is always wagging to say everything is fine. And, although he has no barking response to noises, he barks when he wants a treat from Karen when she gets home. Cooper is especially fond of people, likes other dogs and gets along well with the neighbor’s greyhounds. He also loves the hollow bone which can be filled with broccoli or other goodies and sealed with a little peanut butter. This treat keeps him entertained for hours.

Bob says Cooper (believed to be around 2 ½ years old) is a terrific dog and quite a lover boy who showers you with kisses. In fact, they no longer need an alarm clock since Cooper jumps up on their bed each morning to wake them with kisses. Bob says it is just incredible how well things are going with Cooper in their family.

Cooper may not be able to hear all the words of love that are told to him, but he no doubt feels the adoring love being given to him in his new wonderful forever home with Bob and Karen.
