Snoopy came to me as a foster dog in May 2003. I was his fourth foster
home since being found in the mountains starving. He had several sores
on his body and was very sensitive to being touched on his head or body.
He also marked and nipped (other foster homes called the nips “love”
bites). I immediately took him to the vet for tests and evaluation and
found that the blood in his urine and the sores were caused by his diet.
He could not digest protein. After being put on a non-protein diet, his
skin cleared up and he was not as sensitive to touch and the "love"
biting decreased.
After this, I decided he was going to stay. He got along fine with my
two female Dalmatians. Later, I found from x-rays that Snoopy has a
bullet in his hip. No doubt he was foraging for food and being deaf did
not react to someone yelling at him so they shot him.
It has been almost three years. Snoopy marks occasionally and if
approached cautiously, allows you to pet him. He is loving to me and
people he trusts and wants to be near you always. He loves to go between
my legs--a big problem when I am trying to get dressed.
Snoopy has been to school and when I am out of town, goes to The Dog Club
or “kennels” well at my dog sitter’s house. He loves his kennel and
often sleeps there during the day.
I know that Snoopy has found his forever home. If I leave the front door
open, he will not go beyond the door and would never run away. He is
learning not to counter graze and to accept people he doesn’t know. He
knows sign and when it’s meal time, I think he “hears” just fine.
