Spanky

Spanky and Daisy are rescue bullies from Dallas, TX.  We were members of Lonestar Bulldog Club for many years so the club knew us already. The Dallas SWAT team took them from a drug raid in south Dallas in Oct of 2005 when Spanky was about 7 mos and Daisy was 2 mos old. Because everyone was arrested, the police did not know what to do with the dogs. They located the Lonestar Bulldog Club who took them in to be rehabilitated before allowing them to be adopted. Daisy was in really bad shape….she was so little and covered in mange. Both of them had not be well cared for. Spanky went to the Houston area in Nov but the person who was going to adopt him changed his mind after keeping him a few days because of his deafness—he was too rowdy for the person. We had contacted the club asking about another dog they had and they told us they had 2 puppies that they wanted to adopt together since one dog was deaf. So on Dec 1, 2005 we got Spanky and on Dec 2, 2005 Daisy arrived. Daisy had a few close calls that first week because she had a bad reaction to her mange treatments. So they were our Christmas presents in 2005 before we moved from Dallas to Colorado. We’ve never owned a deaf bulldog but it’s been ok. You have to do some things differently but I think having a hearing dog has helped him. He is much mellower than when he was a puppy. We all called him “gator” because he liked to bite or chew everything but we broke him of that bad habit. Now, we call them the “doodles” because you won’t see one without the other one.
